The story

Every winter, from October to March, Mow Town’s teams lose half their training. It is dark by five, and the old lamps on the clubhouse wall light a corner of one pitch — so sessions are cancelled, squeezed, or moved to a hall miles away. Four new LED floodlight masts would light the whole of the main pitch at Fresh Cut Park. That means training on Tuesday and Thursday nights all year for the juniors, the women’s team and the first team, and evening matches in the spring. The masts, lamps, cabling and installation come to £18,500. A Football Foundation grant covers most of it — the club has to find the last £5,000 itself. That is what this appeal is for. Every pound helps, and if you pay UK tax, Gift Aid adds 25% at no cost to you. Thank you for backing your club.

How to give

Bank transfer to Mow Town FC — sort code 00-00-00, account 00000000 (demo details). Use the player’s name as the reference. Or cash to your team manager at training. Talk to Penny (treasurer) if money is tight — nobody misses out.

Please say it is for “New Floodlights Fund”.

Over halfway — thank you!

The quiz night at the Greenkeeper’s Arms raised £640, the Rotary Club sent a cheque for £500, and the Old Boys from 1998 have chipped in too. We are well past halfway. If we reach £5,000 by the closing date, the masts go up in the half-term week and the first training session under the lights is the U12s’ — they asked first.

Thank you to everyone who has given in the first week — we are already past £500. Three firms have quoted for the four masts; the committee meets on Thursday to choose. The Football Foundation has confirmed its grant, so every pound we raise now goes straight to the lights.
